Chicken attacked - possible prolapsed vent? Graphic photos

Pics
I know it doesn’t even look like it was ever as bad as her wound was, crazy! I was planning on putting the dog crate in the run to help reintegrate, do you have any suggestions on how long to do that for or anything else to help her? I plan on the day I let her out to have them be free ranging the whole day, I want her to have a chance to get away if needed.
I think that re-integrating is kind of a “play it by ear” thing. Your plan sounds smart to me!

She looks really good. I am glad that you are going to slowly reintegrate her with the dog crate inside the run. After awhile you could start some supervised visits, then free ranging just before roost time. It really depends on the flock dynamics as to how long it may take. I had one last year who had to spend the summer on the other side of the chicken netting all day long, then be put back in her crate each night.

I wanted to do one final update on Honey! She is doing amazing and back reintegrated with her flock. She is a mid to low ranking flock member but my rooster loves her so she is looked out for by him and she has started to be able to handle her own more and more. I put her out last week with them and I swear it is as if her feathers have not stopped growing, she is looking so healthy. I have attached some photos of her wound from week 5 and now week 6. It’s pretty much nothing now and the part that had that huge abscess is completely healed over and all just regular skin. It’s amazing how fast her wound has healed. To anyone that may be looking at this because their chicken was attacked, just know there is hope and a lot of amazing people here to help and guide you!

Yeah for you and for Honey!!! :celebrate She looks fantastic - who can believe that’s the same sad hen that was in the early pictures? You’ve done such a wonderful job treating her and getting her back with her flock! Congratulations on her recovery and thanks for sharing your success.

So my hen was attacked by my dog 3 days ago and I have been treating her wounds. I am starting to get worried that she may have a prolapsed vent, and that it may have happened when my dog grabbed at her tail feathers and ripped them out.

Any thoughts on this? Should I just try and heal the other wounds then deal with that later if it is?
Hows your chicken doing? Please give us an update.
