Chicken back end almost black

I have about 3 chickens with dark rear ends, I let one soak in epsom salt for a bit, then tried Dawn trying to rub it out of feathers. Most of it came out, but not all. I have no idea what it is, they have been pecked at back there too! Not sure what else I could try??

Yes, pictures would help but if it’s near the rear end, maybe pooey feathers? Would explain how most of it comes out when washed

I gave them all a bath!! They are all better! Mud and pop!!!

Watch out for poopy bottoms in hot weather when flies are out. They can lay eggs on the vent area, and cause flystrike or maggot infestation, which is deadly if not caught in time. Glad you got them all cleaned up.
