Can chicks have cedar shavings for bedding

Probably not a good idea. On here, many will say, never use it, it is toxic, then someone will come along and say they have added cedar to other litter for years without a problem. I do suspect it has to do with what kind of cedar and how much cedar odor they have. I would not buy a bag of cedar shavings and put them in a brooder with young chicks, but I might sprinkle a bit of it in an outdoor run.
