Hello, I am new at raising chickens. But, I found ground corn cobs were great for bedding. They are also easy to clean daily. I just take a cat litter scoop and pick out the chicken droppings. It is really easy and the chickens stay clean as well as the chicken coop. They are cheap if you have to buy. I get mine from a farmer who sells 60 pound bags for $8.00. Since you are only picking up the poop you just add ground corn cobs to freshen up the coop. I used straw in their laying boxes.
