We've got an older Rhode Island Red whose been acting slow and sleepy for a few weeks. Today we found her collapsed under the feed bucket with the other chickens walking on her. We thought she was dead until we tried to move her and she opened her eyes. She's very weak, stretches and opens her eyes occasionally. Can't hold up her head. She stayed conscious for a few minutes while we tried to give her water from a dropper (she drank very little). She's now passed out again. Anything we can do?

Welcome to BYC. Here is how to post on the emergency thread where you will get more help: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/threads/add/forumId/44 It doesn't sound to me like she will live long enough to treat her. I would look at her crop for impaction, look at her eyes and nose for any swelling or nasal drainage. Could she have gotten into anything poisonous or rotted animal or fish carcasses or vegetation? That would be a cause of botulism. A necropsy by your state vet may give you a cause of deat. Sorry about your chicken.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your girl, Eggcessive gave you some good ideas about what to try with her, agree it doesn't sound very hopeful for her.

I am so sorry about your bird. Eggcessive has given you some great advice. Get her under some heat as well. The heat may revive her somewhat for you to treat her further.

I hope you can help save her.

Separate her from the others so they aren't trampling on her. I agree she should be kept warmer. Maybe she would drink more if there was some sugar in the water. It doesn't sound like she will recover, but, she deserves to be as comfortable as possible till the end. I'm very sorry.
