So, I just pulled up to my house when my father called me and said we had a small earthquake. I didn’t feel it because I was just getting out of the car. He felt it, though.

I know what you all are thinking, an earthquake in Idaho? Well, let me assure you that it is possible. It’s happened before. I’ve been through one.

Anyway, I immediately went to check on the chickens, all around 6 weeks old. They were all like this when I found them. All huddled together, obviously scared.

One of my Rhode Island reds was really chill about it. She was just resting like she didn’t care.

Anyway, this got me thinking. What behaviors do your chickens go through during an earthquake? I’m just curious.

I had a very unexpected small earthquake here. Woke up because the chickens were making a ruckus. Mom apparently opened the coop door and one of them ran out to sit by my office door, and the rest were all just being loud and terrified. It was late at night too. Very small supposedly. I did get the chooks all calmed down.

I have two groups. Only the Bigs (6 hens) made a ruckus. The Littles slept right through it.

I'm in CA, and we only get tiny earthquakes in my area. Worst one made some stuff fall and freaked out the chickens. I'm pretty sure birds can sense things like that, so I think they might have thought it was going to be a bd one. Everyone was fine.
