Hello. We have a fairly new flock. We have seven hens around five months old and eight younger pullets all living in a fairly large coop. We have one Buff Brahma that, every night, it sits down in the doorway and blocks the remaining chickens (usually only one or two) from getting into the coop. We have an automatic door which shuts on her back but she just sits there. The other chickens are stuck outside while eleven or twelve others roosting comfortably inside. How do we get the one chicken to stop roosting in the door every night?
Thanks,
Dave

First a few ???? Is there sufficient light inside so chicken can see where to roost?
By sufficient light, I am wondering if there are windows or openings to allow daylight in. She may be sitting chilling, because doesn't feel comfortable entering a dark area.
Does she show aggression towards the young pullets trying to enter?
A quick test if she is uncomfortable with dark, would be to install a light inside coop to be on at roost time. (dusk) It can be a flashlight initially for the testing, and just remove after all chickens are in. If light is the solution, there are multiple options, and one easy one would be a Solar Light. You would have to experiment exactly when it would come on, If it came on when quite dark outside, then scrap the solar activated idea. Go with timer, and electricity.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and :welcome

Thank you, Cavemanrich. No, there’s no aggression towards the pullets and this is a fairly new habit. I will try a light and see if it makes a difference.
Thanks again.
