Hello!

I have 2 chickens that are now about 11 weeks old. One is a buff orpington and the other I was told is an Ameruacana. Wanted to get the opinions from the group to see if you think it is an Ameruacana vs Easter Egger. Also, pullets vs cockerels? Especially interested in the Ameruacana which is why the pictures focus on her. And how can you tell?

Thanks!

Buff Orpington: Pullet
Ameraucana: Cockerel

I can tell with the BO because of the small comb and lack of waddle development as well as smooth hackle feathers.
The Ameraucana looks like a cockerel to me because it has a pretty large comb for 11 weeks. I also see pointed hackle feathers which are more indicative of the bird being a male at the age.

Buff Orpington Pullet
Easter Egger (really need to see a front comb pic for gender)

Some helpful info:
Unless chicks/birds are labeled as Ameraucana (note the spelling) and a specific color, they are Easter Eggers. A lot of hatcheries, And people that don't know anything, label them as Americana, Araucana, etc. be careful though, as Araucanas are an actual breed. They are tailless, and have big ear tufts. They also should be specified as a specific color.

How I can sex your chickies:
Any chicks from approx. 6-8 weeks old, to about 16-18 weeks, that has large and red comb or wattles, is a cockerel. At around 12 weeks, male specific feathering will come in. Pointy saddle, hackle, and sickle feathers.
If you feel the comb is tricking you, wait till 12 weeks, because feathering is no liar.
