Chicken Breed Focus - Phoenix

My daughters silver Phoenix. His tail was 6 ft in this picture.

I LOVE this picture. I have never seen one keep its tail so long.

I received a Silver Duckwing Phoenix hen in a surprise box, and we decided to keep her. She lives in a mixed flock of much heavier birds, and spends a lot of time perching high.
As she is only 5 months old and fall is on the way, do I need to start thinking about moving her into the garage, or do the hens overwinter ok? I've heard mixed reports.

she is a big one for hanging out with me when I'm outside. Or rather on me!

Do they sustain cold weather? For Seattle Washington
Do we need to trim their feathers? For the fly high.
I have a 2 and half month old Phoenix silver.

Thanks for creating this thread! Can we all just pause for a minute to marvel at how wonderful the Phoenix breed is? We have two 19 week old pullets and they are sweet, delicate-looking, docile, funny, curious, and, surprisingly, don't get picked on by the larger and more aggressive breeds. They were sweet as chicks and are just as friendly as pullets. We are still waiting for them to start laying, but since they're doing "squats," I think this may be soon.

The only downside of this breed is that they are small and do like to fly. I had to trim their feathers two days ago because I found them perched on a fence.

I have a pair of golden duck wing phoenix that I bought at auction. They are beautiful and my girl Lilly lays about 3 to 4 cream eggs a week. In comparison to my Sexlink brown eggs her eggs are tiny and tear dropped.

I got three golden, I believe. Two hens and a rooster. I got them in particular because one of my neighbor kids is in love with birds. She told me she wants to be a falconer just like the ren faire guy she sees every year. Being seven, nobody takes her seriously. But she's had this dream for two solid years. She also loves my chickens, and asked me if she could possibly "rent" a chicken from me to train as a falcon, so people would listen to her. How could I say no? I told her she didn't have to rent one, she could pick a breed she really liked, and I would get some if I liked them too, and we would go from there. She showed me the Phoenix, and I fell in love with those glorious tails. Waiting for them to mature a bit more to hatch some babies for my neighbor to imprint on and raise.
