I have been told by several local people with chickens that certain chicken breeds wont sit their eggs ever... but they say that back several years ago those same chicken breeds DID sit and hatch out chicks. They think the instinct to sit eggs have been bred out of them or its something in the chicken feed making the chickens not want to sit their eggs... Does anyone have first hand experience of chicken breeds that sit and hatch out baby chicks??
There is nothing in the chicken feed that will make a hen go broody, or keep a hen from going broody. Some breeds are more inclined to go broody than others. Check out Henderson's Chicken Breed's chart for a bit of a run down on chicken temperaments.
