Chicken butt has maggots :(

This is my first time raising Cornish Crosses. All of them have poopy butts which I gather is fairly normal. However, one has a nice maggot infestation on his butt. I washed it to clean it up and in doing so found that a lot of his butt has been chewed up by the maggots. I am guessing I am going to have to cull him? Anyone have any suggestion on how to fix this?

A soapy bath may help get some of the maggots out, and you may need to use tweezers to get them all. Permethrin spray or SWAT can be applied to the vent--I believe that is the same ingredient as screw worm spray. I would watch the others so they don't have poopy vents. Thanks. They are 6 weeks old. Needless to say, I am leery about eating a maggoty butted chicken.

Yep, I know what you mean, LOL. But depending on when you had planned to butcher them. it might be worthwhile to treat him, or just go ahead and put him down now to lessen any suffering.
