Hi all, just joined. I have five chooks, 3 Araucana, 1 Frizzle and 1 Polish. Got them about 3 weeks ago. They are between 9 and 11 weeks. The Frizzle and one Araucana may be roosters, I am not sure yet.
Tonight I was in the chook pen with them - it was starting to get dark, and while generally they have gotten used to me, tonight they were quite agitated. I went into the coop, and the Araucana that may be a roo - name of Nero (he or she is black) followed me in, and walked quite purposefully towards me. I thought (s)he was going to peck me, but instead, (s)he flapped her wings and started flying up my body! Using flapping wings, and by grabbing my jumper/sweater with his/her claws, Nero managed to get up to my shoulder height. I leaned over, and Nero proceeded to sit on my back! Nero stayed up there for a good 5 minutes. I thought it was hilarious, but what the heck was that all about?

I'd say Nero is feeling comfortable enough with you that he/she decided to use you as a roosting bar, lol.

BTW...:welcome

Sounds more like they don't respect you as flock leader and if it's a Cockerel it possibly is putting you in your place..It got you bellow it as it sat on your back..Actually not funny at all...Dont allow that Behavour...I enjoy my Chickens too, although they respect me...

Welcome to BYC!
It was just looking for a high place to spend the night and you were the tallest thing available.

Not really good to let them climb on you, can be annoying as well as injurious down the road.....and is also can be a dominance behavior, with cock/erels that can really be problem later.

If you post pics of your birds in the 'what gender' forum,
folks can tell you if you have male birds or not.
