Chicken Colors 101 ???? PICS ADDED on pg 2

Well, now that I've learned a little bit, I think I don't know what I'm talking about! LOL I'm confused.

But here's what I've got... This (mostly) white rooster is 1/4 White Leghorn, 1/2 Wheaten Game, and 1/2 brown Americauna (or so I was told, I don't know her actual breeding though- she did have a beard and muff, and is where the funny comb came from (I think!).)

These 2 hens are 3/4 Wheaten Game, 1/4 White leghorn.

They all have some dark feathers here and there, and as you can see the rooster has a yellowish hint in the feathers over his back. (He is molting, forgive his ugly hackles) He has VERY light golden edges on his feathers, but not his tail feathers or wing feathers. It doesn't show is the pics quite what it looks like in person, but maybe you can get the idea?

The hens have that very light edging around all of their body and hackle feathers, though the one hen is a bit darker than the other. I have no idea what is going on with their coloring!!!

Now- HERE'S what we got when we crossed the rooster with the sister of these 2 hens that had dark legs (a bobcat ate her, though).... We will cross this rooster with these 2 hens and see if this color happens again....

Would you care to tell me what that means? Why is it "leaking"?

I rather like the offspring, and also the color of the hens, I think they are so pretty. I just don't know what to call that color, since the main part of the feathers is white and the edge is light gold. I REALLY love the color of their offspring, and hope i get more of those next spring when they start laying again (being mostly Game, the hens only lay in the warm months

What colors can I breed these to, to either enhance the colors, or to not mess with the color at all while introducing new blood into the line?

(Obviously, I do not care about keeping these birds pure, they are just barnyard pets & layers

The other birds like the cochins and silkies are for pure lines

leakage is where colors that get covered up will sometimes tend to 'leak or bleed' threw the main body color.
Your rooster I was referring to ,most likely has some red in him some where the white is covering it, but is is showing threw
