If it's RIR it's mix, RIR have single combs.Should I be concerned about this hen's comb? She is (I think) a Rhode Island Red and 15 weeks old. I'm new here and a new chicken mom. I appreciate your help.
I agree about nothing wrong with the comb but that's probably not a pure rhode island red with that kind of comb, probably a cross because RIR typically have single straight up combs. Now it may be mostly RIR and look and act like one so there's nothing wrong with this. That comb looks like the ones my wyandotte have.Hiya, and welcome to BYC!
I don't see anything wrong with her comb from your picture, but it looks to me like it's more of a walnut comb. There are different types of combs on different breeds of chickens. I'm not up on breeds but do recognize that comb as it's the type our silkies get.
Comb might be a bit pale, but otherwise pretty healthy than that I dont see any other problems. If it's RIR it's mix, RIR have single combs.

My barred rock has a straight up single comb, just like my RIR girls do. I've personally never seen a barred rock with a walnut comb.Looks like the ones my barred rocks have, and my silkies.
My barred rocks are mixes, so Im not suprised. My barred rock has a straight up single comb, just like my RIR girls do. I've personally never seen a barred rock with a walnut comb.
