I was just reading the article about composting with chickens and I had an idea. Currently my run has sand in it but i have to buy it and get it delivered which gets crazy expensive. BUT I have a lychee orchard and I am knee deep in dead leaves all the time, so after reading the article i put 2 and 2 together and came up with 14...... can I compost some of these leaves in the chicken run??

As long as they aren't poisonous. (I googled and couldn't figure it out.)

I actually just started doing the same thing. I got 14 bags of leaves from my sister's yard and filled my run with them. The chickens love scratching them and it should begin composting and enhancing my soil. I hope to plant some shrubs for them after it's been improved.

Thats awesome,

I don't think they are poisonous because they range out in the orchard and they seem OK :)

thank you for the googling.

can't wait to try it
