Chicken confusion land...
Well.... I just learned that the bins I got my hampbars and Rhode Island reds from were mixed up (the store must have flip flopped the labels... and I also ended up with a crevecoeur out of the polish bin... so now... do I have 2 barred rocks? These two are 9-10 weeks old from the same hatchery run. They just look very different. If anyone can help they are numbered with different photographs to help identify. And they both may very well be barred rocks... I just don't know enough to make any conclusions. Chick 1 is Opal and chick 2 is Dot.

They're both barred rocks. 1 just has imperfect coloring. We've seen barred rocks from at least one of the hatcheries like this for years now. I don't remember which it was.

Probably at some point silver penciled Plymouth rocks accidentally crossed with barred rocks at one of the hatcheries, and the weird color legacy remains with their stock. I'd expect it to be the same in all but color.

Do you know of something like this will impact egg coloring?
