I'm trying to find some type of construction sand for my chickens. My parents brought a bag of paver sand to have me look at it. Is paver sand safe to use on my chickens? Is their chemicals in it? Will i have to wash it? I would rather have construction sand but i can't seem to find some anywhere.

Also, the sand will be in the run, can it also be in the coop?

Some people do use sand in the coop. It takes quite a bit of work, and is not a great choice in wet or really cold climates - it is too cold and hard on the feet when frozen.

Welcome! I use bagged shavings in my coop, and deep bed it, so cleaning out is only a two or three times a year adventure. Much easier! The people who use sand seem to be scooping daily, much too labor intensive for me. My run is on an old broen up concrete pad, with shavings, hay, and whatever on top. It works fine. Mary
