Chicken Coop Project *Revised Plans*

Wow - I tried taking pallets apart for about 5 minutes and gave up. I am making my duckhouse with the full pallets. They are constructed solidly. My project is not really a planned venture but more of a -see what I have laying around and tack it together mission.

Since this is for ducks, the 2 exposed pallets will be covered with chicken wire for max ventillation.

Good luck! Re-using pallets is a wonderful mission.

We have successfully dismantled 6 pallets. The ones that were
already splitting at the ends we cut with a saw, the rest we
pried apart. Darell thinks well buy wood for the framing and
the pallet wood for the rest. Checked out an amish chicken
coop at the barn building store, out was really cute and perfect,
I estimated that they would be charging at least 1200$ for it,
some guy there thought only 300$. I'm calling tomorrow
to check on the price.

The planned coop just keeps getting bigger!
Originally, it was going to be 4x4, then 5x5.
Then the dear husband decided that however
large I thought it should be, he should double
so I won't immediately be wanting a larger one.
Very wise he is. So, now it's 4x8.
Looked up some plans, priced supplies.
Let the building commence!

Found plans online for this coop. It's 4 x 8. The building store up the road is asking 1400.00$ for a 5 x 8 coop. We purchased the materials, minus the plywood this morning, even bought a window to put in the back for added light and only spent 230.00$.

Coop framing is done, and I laid the linoleum floor myself yesterday. Working in walls, roof, and nest boxes next.

No, it just kept getting bigger and bigger. Soon, it was too big to use pallet wood.
I priced a 3x4 coop, that they wanted about $850 for. This will be 4x8 and be about $400. So, even buying the wood it is much cheaper to build ourselves.
I suggested to my husband that we attempt to sell ourselves as a sort of "This New Coop/Martha Stewart" chicken show and we could quit our jobs and go around building chicken coops. But he didn't think it would sell as an idea. But then again he has never watched those shows. It would have to be better than some of them!!!

From trolling pages when I googled ' free chicken coop plans's
There were drawings and pictures. My husband reports that
the plans are flawed, but he really only needed the basics
and could figure out the rest. I'll post a link to the site
once my 11 year old gives me computer access.

This
is the site we used. We are adding a window to the back of the coop, putting the pop door on the back where the coop is up against the run. Adding some vents under the roof eaves and maybe leaving the fold down vent off of the front door. The pop door will have a pulley so that I can lift or close it from the front of the coop.
