Question: When my chicks grow to be large enough to lay eggs, do I close my Chicken coop door every night when they go in to roost for the night, or do I just keep it open all the time?

It’s completely up to u and your set up.

I do close the door on the coop at night and open it up in the morning. we have an enclosed run, but for me, it’s an extra layer of protection if something happens to get in.

My in-town chickens had a hardened run so I never closed the pop door. I kept the food and water in the run and allowed them to get themselves up and put themselves to bed.

On the country property the predator level will be different and higher so I'll probably add electric wire to the run before feeling confident in doing the same there.

If the coop has an attached totally predator-proof run then you don't need to close the door between the coop and run. If not, you should always close the door to secure them at night. Otherwise anything that wants a chicken dinner will have easy access.

Ditto Dat^^^
..and not just when they start laying, as soon as the birds start living in the coop.
