chicken coop substrate

I recently set up a chicken coop and was wondering what substrate to use in the run. For now, i just put the coop over some grass, but should i remove the grass and place the coop on the dry dirt?

The chickens will take care of the grass and make it dirt I use deep litter method in my run - I've got an urban coop and I haven't had any issues with smell.

The only potential problem with the grass is if your lawn has been fertilized with chemicals which could be toxic to chickens. They will eat and scratch the grass until there is none left, or you move the coop to a new patch.

My coop floor is sand. It’s super easy to clean and once a week we add fresh sand from our sandy road in Florida.
