Well, my husband (Harry) and I worked all day on insulating our new chicken coop. Tons of work but it will be totally worth it for my young ladies and possibly a few young fellows!
Will send pictures once we have the inside cladded. My chicks are growing like Chick Weed ( a very bad weed). I'm having tuns of fun with them. The Buffies are all over me when I go in their enclosure. I have them in a horse stall, in my show barn. Their totally spoilt, because everyone who comes to the barn to see their horses, has to come and pet the chicks. Hope to move their in another two weeks to the new hen house and they should be able to go outside in their enclosure. I can't let them run free. My bouvier and my parson terrier, think they look like lunch!!!!!
Will keep you all posted on my progress with the hen house and the peepers.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. More important than insulation is that the coop is draft free, dry, and well ventilated to keep moisture from building up in it. Feathers are wonderful insulators in themselves, and moisture is a far greater danger than cold. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in finishing your coop.

Michael has provided very good advice. He knows what he is talking about. Welcome to the Backyard chickens flock, so glad you joined us.

Thank you for all the advice. I was raised on a chicken farm, from age 6 to 20....,,,. My parents raised laying hens. Had a flock or 3000 birds at all times. Know all about ventilation. Remember that there were huge fans sucking hot air out of the hen houses and a large system bring fresh air in. Remembering than tha I really disliked chickens because I needed to help with the egg and such.
In my coop I have two vents across from each other, close to the ceiling. The insulation is meant to keep the coop cool in the summer. I'll be keeping the hens in the main barn for the winter so they can run loose and forage around in the two barns and the arena. They should like that. I think that should also keep them more social!
