One of our hens went broody and is sitting on about 5 eggs so we decided we would let her hatch them. I know what crosses the eggs will be so I'm wondering if anyone can show/tell me what the crosses will produce as far as what the chicks will look like. Here are the crosses:
RIR rooster x New Hampshire (will this produce a red sex link?)
RIR rooster x Black sex link
RIR rooster x Black Australorp

The rirXnh cross will not give you red sex links. You need a silver/white hen for that to work. You will probably get mostly red and black chicks.

Okay thanks. I did some research on internet and it said RIRx New Hampshire will produce production red chicks.

None of those crosses will give you sex linkages of any sort. The chicks from the NH hen will be reddish orange and the others will be black.
Sex links are over-rated, unless you really intend to cull the male chicks at hatch, there is not much benefit as far as I can see.

RIR over a New Hampshire hen will produce a red chick.

RIR over a Black Sex Link hen depends on what the parents of the BSL were. There are many many different combinations that can produce a BSL. Technically neither needs to be black but at least one practically always is. If she is black, you will get some black chicks. But it is also possible you could get many different colors and patterns including red. It just depends on what the parents were.

RIR over a Black Australorp hen will give you black chicks.

None of these will give you sex links.

Production Red is just a marketing name. It may be a cross between RIR and New Hampshire. It may be other crosses. It’s may be a line of red chickens that have been bred for production for several generations. I could even be sex links. It’s just a marketing name that means you will get red chickens. Crossing your RIR rooster with your NH hen will give you red chickens, nothing more.

Some sex links sold by hatcheries are simply certain breeds crossed so you can tell at hatch which are male or female. These will be no better or no worse than their parents as far as egg production.

Some sex links sold by hatcheries are the hybrids bred for commercial egg production. These are the fairly small ones that lay a large egg practically every day. In their own way they are as specialized in egg production as Cornish X are in meat production.

Them being sex links is pretty meaningless as far as their egg production goes. It all depends on their parents. The ones from the hatcheries that have “regular breed” parents are usually pretty good at egg production because they hatcheries use breeds that are pretty good at egg production to make them. The specialized commercial hybrids are egg laying machines.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm not trying to produce more sex links we already have 5 of those I was just curious about what chicks will look like thanks though
