Hello, I have a chicken who has recently started having random bouts of crouch-walking - not like an eggbound waddle or struggling in any way, she literally looks like she is ducking under some invisible object which isn’t there. It’s only occasional and lasts around 10-20 seconds, and she walks completely fine otherwise. She is also eating and drinking completely fine, doesn’t seem to have any injuries on her legs or stomach. She has always been an off-and-on layer, and has had reproductive issues in the past, but I am 99% sure she’s not eggbound because it’s not just her rear end drooping and she doesn’t look like she is in any pain when she does it. She has only just started doing it a week or two ago. Could this be a neurological problem?

It sounds like a possible neurological or pain response. I had a pullet (who had other medical issues) that started to crouch walk as well. I believed that instance was due to pain, however I am unsure if your hen is in any pain.
Is her crop full possibly? Do you have any new photos of your hen or videos of her crouch walking? Does anything with her seem off or any other new things she just started doing as well?

I am not a super professional with the medical side, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. Most of what I said was from experience :) @Eggcessive and @Wyorp Rock may have a better idea of what could be happening.

I agree that a photo or video that could be uploaded to YouTube or similar with a link posted here, could be helpful. Is she starting to molt by any chance? Molting can bring about some strange behaviors. If you suspect it of being neurological, I would start giving her a 400 IU softgel of vitamin E plus 1/2 of a human vitamin B complex tablet daily. Add a small bit of scrambled egg to her diet daily. Note if she seems to have any injury.

I will upload a video as soon as I can. I don't know about the molting, because she has shed a few feathers in the run but I don't think it's enough for a full molt. She still looks nice and feathery except for her rear end, which became bald not long after we got her (2 years ago) and has remained bald since. Once again, no injuries in sight, but I will definitely try the vitamins - thank you for your advice. She has always been a very quirky chicken so I would not be surprised if it is neurological.
