Today, I went in the coop to get eggs and found a dead hen laying on the ground. Her beak was open, so she must have died panting. I don't know what the temperature was, but it got pretty hot today. It wasn't quite 100, but in the mid or high 90's. I don't understand why she would have died from heat though. They all free range during the day, and have plenty of shade and fresh water.. Do you think she could have died from heat?

Good possibility...very good that is! Get yourself some electrolytes/Vitamin supplement at your local feed store and put it in the water. Also be sure to water your birds at least daily in this high heat! Best of luck!

Also fill water bottles & freeze, take a few out for hens to lay on mid day. Freeze their treats,ie green peas, cantaloupe, watermelon, raisins, grapes. These will also help replace their electrolytes & they will love u double for it.
