Have 2 Barred Rocks and 1 Americana. All are about 15 months old. Both Barred Rocks were very lethargic today. Would not come out of there hutch. Americana is fine. Checked them several times today, thought it might be stress from fireworks last night. Cool morning but started heating up this afternoon. Noticed my smaller Barred Rock panting while laying an egg and put water in hutch. We checked them several times and it seemed like the lethargic chickens weren't really eating or drinking. We even put them outside to get them to cool off. Now my small Barred Rock is dead. When we removed the body, we noticed she was bleeding from her vent a lot. She was also missing some feathers around her vent. My other Barred Rock is still lethargic but seems fine except for possibly some blood on her comb that is dried ( I am not sure if that is new or not). We are mystified by the death and worried for our other Barred Rock. This has all happened in a 12 hour period. Please help!

I'm really sorry to hear that.

Birds can injure themselves badly if startled by fireworks, running into walls or cutting themselves. They can also suffer from inhaling smoke, which is very dangerous for birds, as they have sensitive lungs.
Were there any other signs of problems before the fireworks? Could it be the heat that is causing problems? If she was bleeding a lot, it could have been a broken egg that led to the problem, or internal injuries from the firework scare.
Could they have parasites? Were they bullying each other at all?

Best of luck with your birds. I hope they get better soon.
