Chicken destroying eggs.

I have six girls and 3 nest boxes. One of my buffs, Babs, has a favorite nest box. If there is an egg in it she breaks the egg and throws it out and then lays her egg. In the pecking order, Babs, is the "head hencho". I try getting to the nest box before she does this but most days she beats me to it. Any ideas or advise on how to stop this behaviour. I am fairly new to keeping chickens and would be grateful for your input.

I don't have a good answer for you. I have heard of egg eaters but not territorial egg destroyers. I do have a naughty buff girl that will occasionally eat her own egg! This will bump you up and maybe one of the experts will chime in! Good luck!

I would try to either close the box off or put a ceramic egg in there for her to try to destroy.

Thanks for the advice. I will try the ceramic egg. It will either cure of her issues or totally tick her off.

The best thing i can suggest is to redo your nest boxes and make them so the egg rolls into a different area right when it is laid they cant get into so that you can collect them

We scattered a lot of golf balls. Worked like a charm. Cheaper and easier than fake eggs.
