CHICKEN DIAPERS: instructions, how to, advice!

That's how I feel, why do you want a chicken running around your house. If I have a sick bird its in a cage in the garage. I don't want to change any chicken diapers yuck!!!!
It's really not that gross, but then again, I'm used to chicken poo

I've tried putting the chicken diaper on a few, finally success, the chicken did the whole backwards walking ordeal, and seems super clumsy. Bedtime, she is trilling nothing new though I swear in between there is protest, she sounds like she is crying is sad and pitiful I might cave.

These are great because there are so many different circumstances. I never thought of a house chicken either until I had a hen that killed her first chick after it hatched. She was going to kill the second one..(she only has 2), anyway, I had no other broodies, so I had to bring it inside. It was September and couldn't find a chick to put it with. Needless to say, I've raised her, she refuses to integrate with the flock..after all, she thinks she's better than an outside coop!. So it's December, snowy, rainy and I have a house chicken. In diapers.

I have problems with the sorts of diapers that seem to have back extensions which force the chicken to carry its tail abnormally low and which cover up its oil gland. Doesn't seem very kind to interfere with a bird's ability to preen properly or to hold its tail up and wag it or otherwise use it to express itself whenever it wants to.

On the other hand, the diapers that the little Sebright and black Silkie are wearing in those earlier photos don't seem designed to interfere with their wearers' preening/tail carriage in the same way. How come this design isn't the standard instead of the more restrictive versions? I'm glad chickens are being better thought of when it comes to being pets than they used to be, but when it comes to making them--any animal, really--uncomfortable just for our own human convenience, I start to tune out and think that they'd be better off back in the barnyard after all...

No different to a dog or cat running around the house, or even a kid .. chickens are cleaner and smell better, and chicken nappies are far more pleasant to change than baby nappies .. so what's the big deal?

My hens got used to theirs fairly quickly, and know that nappies mean snuggles inside or an exciting car trip, and they are more than happy to have them on

I totally agree. I had to bring in my dogs and cats when the temps got in the negatives and they were dirtier then any chicken I have ever had. I am not sure why chickens get a bad rap on being dirty, I mean my dog licks it butt and eats cat poop. Chickens just walk around and poop and its not even that bad. I rather clean up a spot of chicken poop then any cat or dog poop. haha
