Chicken died, another ill. Worms or something else???

1/8 tsp sounds about right. It is 1/8 tsp per quart of Corid. I don't think your dog will be hurt by the meds but, I would try hard not to let him get to it. He doesn't need medicating

HELP!!! The second chicken is not going to make it through the night and I'm not sure if there's anything I can do. It is sickly skinny and isn't walking around much. She is sitting by my back door with her head tucked under her wing and not moving. When I pick her up, it feels like she's starving to death, just like the first chicken. She's eating and pooping normally, but she's not gaining any weight. They have been through the first round of worming and I was going to do the second round after I finished the antibiotics. Today is the third day of antibiotics. Her crop is very full right now and feels sort of hard. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the third chicken. She is up, lively, heavy, and runs around like she's perfectly healthy. It's only the second chicken- just like the first chicken, she looks like she's starving to death even though she's eating. I don't know if there's anything else I can do for her...

You were treating with Sulmet, correct? Sulmet only treats a couple strains of Coccidiosis. You need to find Corid and start treatment. Corid treats most, if not all, of the strains of Coccidia. You may be dealing with one that is not touched by Sulmet. Sorry you are having so much trouble.

I have a very sick pullet with the same symptoms: diarrhea, droopy, not standing, very thin.She seems to be breathing fine, no discharge or open mouth so it isn't respiratory. I separated her out a few times during the last week as I noticed she was really thin and I wanted to make sure she was eating. When I did, she'd devoured whatever I put in front of her with gusto. But this morning we found her on her side, covered in feces (soaking wet from it) and not able to stand. I put her under a heat lamp and we fed her a couple of scrambled eggs to try and get protein into her. She ate most of it which seemed to help a little as she is now standing. I'm going to put in a bit of watermelon for water and sugar and try more of the eggs as I'm not sure what else to give her with her sick digestive system. A few weeks ago, we treated for worms - for round worm, I've got to do the second part of the process for any other worms but with her being so sick I don't dare.

I've a couple of other pullets who are also very thin so I'm afraid they may soon follow my little girl (Beatrice). Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

So my little girl is still alive, but barely. She's squatting on her butt, unable to stand on her legs. I've called all the feed stores around here, but none of them have Corid. One feed store told me that it was pulled from the market a while back and they haven't gotten any since. I have parrots and whenever my parrots are ill, I'll add some Grapefruit Seed Extract or Apple Cider Vinegar into their drinking water and they perk back up within two days. So I tried a "concentrated dose" of these in a syringe just now. About half ACV, half water, with about ten drops of GSE. She didn't want to open her mouth, but I think I got some of it in her. I figure if she's going to die anyway, I might as well try something drastic. My last chicken is looking very sad and lonely. She keeps sitting by the sick chicken and croons softly. It's so sad to watch. I ordered some Corid online, so maybe I'll dose my last chicken with it when it comes in just in case. No sure what else I can do. Is there anything I can do to prevent this in the future??? My chickens free range in my small enclosed backyard. I have two cats and a small dog that are also regularly in my backyard. I clean out their coop often and replace the straw. I use a nipple and bucket watering system and a PVC pipe gravity feeder for their pellets. I've had these chickens since the end of June. Could they have had this infection from before I got them?

It is in the soil. There is really no way that you can prevent them from getting it. I just keep a supply of Corid on hand.
