If there is nothing covering your pen its most likely a hawk or other bird of prey. I actually scared off an osprey in the act last year. They would rip right through the aviary netting. Since then I have strung up finishing line. We have not lost anyone in months! Rodents do not like peppermint so we sprinkle peppermint oil around the coop. This far we have had no issues. Also, we do not keep food inside the actual coop.
