Chicken diet?? Will cat food hurt them?

I just started letting my chickens" free range" and noticed that once they found my automatic cat feeder they ran the cats off and emptied it. I checked and the protein level in cat food is around 30% My chicken feed is supposed to be only 16% What should I do?

Feed the cats before you let those piggy ol' chickies out!

I don't think a little extra protein is a problem, though.

As an occasional snack the cat food isn't going to hurt them. Best to find a way to feed kitty away from the chickens though or the cat will definitely be going hungry.

A little cat food isn't a problem. Some even reccomend it for birds that need extra protein.

I feed the outside cats before letting the chickens out and after dark. The first thing they race for is the cat bowls.

yep.. them chickens LOVE the cat food. its most irritating!

should not hurt them and yes its a challenge to keep them out of it!
