I had a hen that was setting on eggs that were due to hatch Thursday. Unfortunately, over the last few days she has been trying to steal the chicks and the nest of another hen. She's been off her nest so much and for so long I didn't hold out much hope that the chicks could hatch especially after I had to separate the two hens Tuesday afternoon due to the knock down drag out fights over the other the chicks and the other hens nests.
After I separated her she wouldn't get back on the nest. So I put the eggs in an incubator and 10 hours later I had three eggs rocking back and forth! I totally forgot to add water to the incubator when I set it up and now I don't know what to do. Are the chicks shrink wrapped? If they are rocking does that mean they aren't shrink warpped? The hen is setting on some eggs I put under her last night. (I actually plan to go get her some chicks tomorrow and let her think she hatched them.)
At this point I have no idea what I should be doing and if I can save these chicks. Help!
PS
I added water and the humidity is up to 75%. It had been at 27 to 29% for the last 8 hours.
Before anyone starts giving me flack. The eggs were completely cold when I moved the hen from the chicken coop into the bedroom. I really didn't think one, let alone three could be viable when I put them in the incubator on a whim.
