Three weeks ago we noticed two girls with small tapeworms in their poop. Whole flock treated with zimectrin gold.

We had one chicken that seemed to be getting heavier over the course of a couple of months who started to behave ill the day everyone was wormed. Standing around fluffy. A week later it turned out she had ascites not weight gain and she died despite having the water drained. We were not able to send her for necropsy.

Another week later and another bird has taken ill 3 yr old. Today she is drinking copious water and pooing only liquid white poo with very small amounts of solids tiny bit of yellow. She is eating some. She does not have a huge water belly like last week's ill hen. Her latest egg was a day ago. I have treated egg bound successfully before in a different hen and don't think that is the issue. She is not ruffling her feathers or standing tail or wings droopy, but she is standing and not walking or scratching very much.

She is now isolated inside. Gave her yogurt and electrolytes. Should I give her corid? Any thoughts?

Hi @Maynchicks :frow Welcome To BYC

I'm so sorry that no one replied to your thread.
How is your hen doing?

If you have photos of your hen and the poop you would like to share, those may be helpful.
Is your hen's crop empty in the morning before she eats/drinks?

You mention you wormed them 3 weeks ago with Zermectrin Gold, did you give a follow up dosage 10-14days after the initial dosing?

Hello, thank you for the replies. I have an update. Today we discovered that our most recent bag of feed was spoiled and green along the bottom two inches of the bag which we have fed two thirds of the bag to the flock over the past three weeks. It goes straight from the car into a metal can in a storage closet, and I talked to the feed store today. They said sometimes the bags spoil because they have some barn areas that are open to the weather. (That's maddening!!) I am thinking that the first girl that we lost was already possibly having some heart issues and then this feed may have pushed her to the end with ascites.
The second one is still sick. She has passed a little bit of solids today but seems to have a liquid white poop in between. She is still eating and drinking today, but not really enough. She did stop guzzling water, so I am hopeful she might make it.
We tried to offer her some water with molasses in it but she wouldn't drink any. She doesn't have any neurologic symptoms or respiratory symptoms. I'm worried she may have gotten enough of bad feed to cause permanent damage.
I didn't do a second deworming since we had two sick in a row within days of the first round.
We have nine more girls, and the rest seem fine at the moment. Threw out the feed of course, but they've all been eating it.
If anybody has any support ideas for possible moldy feed poisoning, I'd love to have suggestions. Tomorrow I will try to send a poo snapshot.
Thank you everyone.

Forgot to reply about her crop. Last night she did have food in it, not topped up to normal level but she definitely ate. By morning it was smaller than a walnut though still felt like some food squishing in there. I don't think it's sour, and don't feel any hard blockage. I don't smell any horrible smell coming from her. Tonight she ate some so that she feels fuller than the morning, but she really didn't eat much today.
I'lI update and send photos in the morning. Thank you everyone for reading.

Oh no! Mold in the feed is not good.
I'm sure you will throw that out and get new. I'm sorry to hear about, feed can mold quickly so I would try to inspect it every time you use it.

If moldy feed is her problem, I don't believe there's a lot you can do but get her on fresh feed. Sounds like the crop is a little slow too. I would give her 1 teaspoon coconut oil (refrigerated to solidify, break up into bite size pieces) massage the crop. See that she has plenty of water. I would only give her wet feed for a few days. Make it fresh - just soak a small amount of feed in warm water, let it sit for about 30minutes or so, add more water to make it whatever consistency you like.
I would give her some poultry vitamins as well. Do you have any? You can find those at most feed stores. I like Poultry Cell - 1cc per 3 pounds of weight direct dose. If you can't get it syringed into her, just mix it into her wet feed. A little egg or tuna would also be good to give as well. Probiotics may also help - you can give her a small amount of yogurt, purchased probiotics or a little buttermilk with white cooked rice.

I hope you see some improvement today. I do think that you need to monitor her crop for several days. Often crop issues are a symptom of something else going on. Say inflammation in the body or intestines from infection, reproductive problems or
worms.

Look forward to your update.

So previous post was her runny white poop. She makes a little crow sound each time she poops. Sounds like it hurts her to go. Generally she stands in a normal posture no droopy wings or tail. In the photo you can see she has nothing oozing or puffy on her face. Her posture is ok and her feathers and skin are in good condition. Her eyes are alert.
Thank you for the food suggestions. She has taken a little yogurt and will gobble up meal worms, but won't eat much regular feed. I will try your suggestions today and the coconut oil and see if it helps. Thank you so much.

Making a sound when she poops is concerning to me. Any way you can have your vet do some testing on the poop?
