Sometimes when it's 100 degrees and I'm working at home I go out to the chicken yard to help my blind pullet, Tiny, get a drink of water. She finds the water on her own but I still worry when it's hot that she doesn't get enough.

So I go out there and I stand her up in the 3'x3' 2" deep pan that I keep full of cold water for them to stand in to cool their feet in the heat. She drinks on her own a little and she drinks from my hand and then when she's done I pick her up and take her back into the hen house for some food. Then today when I put her at the food she started drooling!!!!! Long clear strings of clear mucus looking stuff. 3 strings came out one after the other. What is that? Did she drink to much water?

Sorry if this sounds gross.

I've had chickens do this when I've carried them. I think it's just you may have squeezed her crop a bit and she, for lack of a better word, leaked. That's all I can think of...

you should never pick them up after they drink water cause it pushes the water out of them that also includes you turning them upside down. This also happens when they drink to muck water cause they think thier too hot.

Good Luck!!!!!!!

Mine did that. It was hot and I suspect she drank alot of water, cause when she was out foraging around, I was watching them and she stretched her neck to peck at some green goodies, she drooled a huge amount of mucous/water and I thought she barfed (do chickens barf?) but she acted fine, just had a crop full of water I guess. I hope yours is fine.
