Chicken egg help

Welcome to BYC @Cluckery68

Small eggs don’t confirm fertility I’m afraid. Fertile eggs can be confirmed by checking the yolk for a bullseye. When incubating I will check a few eggs by cracking them before storing for incubation.

Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies! I always check in the "What's New" section as well at the top of this page. This way I can read how I may have a similar question or help give some advice.

I have a silkie rooster that I think has "fertilized" my orpington hen. The reason I think so is the orpington eggs are quite small. Can anyone tell me if this has happened to them? Oh...I have no silkie hens.
I do. I am aware that new layers tend to have small eggs. This has been going on for a couple weeks now. 😳 normally I have one or two small ones then they lay normal sized ones. All but 1 of my hens are orpington
