Chicken experts!!! Crazy question--could this really be happening?

Way back in my childhood days one neighbor played a trick on the other by going out early in the morning about 2 days a week and placing an egg in the cage where his friend had the rooster caged up. The whole neighborhood was cracking up.

A lady in the neighborhood just to the south of us swears her hen crows (lays eggs) and looks like a rooster. I'll believe it when I see it.... and I don't plan an excursion down there any time soon.
