Chicken Eye Infection

Last year, a couple of hens out of our flock developed a milky discoloration in one/both eyes that began to swell. We culled them. However, the disease has cropped up again this year in one hen. All of these particular chickens came from the same place as pullets and I believe that the infection is being caused by the contaminated coop. Is anyone else familiar with this disease and is there any kind of treatment?

was it a discharge or did it look like a bright white membrane?

Yes. The eye itself was white and badly swollen.
