My chickens eye is swollen the past couple days, seems to be fine otherwise. What could this be and how should I treat it?

I would look inside the eye for any debris or a foreign body, look for peck marks or stings around the eye, and look for any bubbles, crusty drainage, or pus in the eye. Sneezing, nasal drainage, eye drainage, and swelling of the eyelid or face can be signs of a respiratory infection such as mycoplasma (MG.) If you suspect a respiratory disease as the cause, or cannot find a peck wound, I would get Tylan 50 injectable from the feed store, and give it orally 1/4 ml per pound 2-3 times a day for 3-5 days.

Ok thank you, I will try my best they aren’t the easiest to get ahold of sometimes to look at it. They are also only 13 weeks old

If it is a peck, I would not give Tylan. Tylan treats mycoplasma symptoms. Is there any eye drainage?

The best time to get hold of them to examine or medicate them is after dark when they are on the roost. I wear a head flashlight with the red light on, and quietly grab them. Then with the white light on I can look them over and take care of them.

I was able to grab her and look, eye itself looks totally fine, no drainage, just the lid is swollen
