I'll be 80 in August and nearly 5 years ago I bought a one acre lot with a small home in Windsor, ME. Since we have a gazillion ticks in the NE part of the U.S. I bought 4 keets last spring (2017). They really did a good job at tick patrol. All 4 are females, 1 tries to hatch eggs so I've given her 2 wooden ones in their nest. This year I purchased Seresto collars for my 2 dogs and 2 cats. The house cat only goes outside in the 'dog/guinea pen' so her regular flea collar from last year is holding her. She's declawed and can't climb the steel fence.
End of April this spring I bought 6 baby chicks for eggs, they have the run of my back yard and since they've been outside I've not had any ticks. (Before they were old enough to go out I did find ticks fell from my lilac bushes!!!!) I supply a 501c3 home with eggs for their residents and hope to do this once the pullets start laying. Also, I'll be looking for a sign to hang down by the road. Fair time is almost here so I'll look there. My Dad was a chicken farmer so I'd like to think he'd be proud that that 'gene' rubbed off on me. ha ha
