I have two Americana's. They are 10 months old. One of them is losing feathers on her neck. It does not look like pecking from other birds. No bleeding or open skin. Is this normal? When do they start molting?
Thanks for your time.

Good article on molting and the timing. http://www.thepoultrysite.com/articles/217/moulting-a-natural-process That is young to be doing a full molt, but birds can do partial molts about anytime, non production breeds seem to do that more, especially if something stresses them. Has anything happened to upset her lately or has she been ill, has there been a change in their lighting or coop? You should be seeing pin feathers pretty soon if it is a molt. When some birds pluck and eat feathers, they won't necessarily break the skin, so I would still wonder about another bird doing it.
