I see it ours, but I was wondering if the bags were 40 lb. , instead of 50? I'll check, next time I'm there.

It's the only kind my wife will feed or she says they won't lay. It isn't a regional thing it is a wierd thing. Out of at least 12 stores in Vegas only 3 carry it and if you're lucky, they may have it in stock. One store only will order 18 at a time and it sells out the same day usually. They won't order anymore for stock or for the customer.

I looked it up online @ walmart.com, searched 'egg layer' under pets\\livestock, and entered my zip code to get the closest stores.

They even have some 50# pellets and crumble on the site. The store most always has the scratch.

We used to buy the feed and scrach from Walmart but stopped when we realized that the bags were only 40lbs, we just assumed they were 50lbs. The walmart price was $10.99 (.27 lb) and the feed store was a 50lb bag for $12.99 (.25lb) and the feed store brand has larger crumbles and less mash (powdery dust or crumbs but not crumble). The same was true for the scratch, but the feed store scratch has less corn and more grain (my chickens like the grain more).

It was conveinent to buy from Walmart while we were there buying other things, but between the Donkeys, Goats, Chickens and Ducks, it is not a big deal for me to goto the feed store once every 2 weeks and stock up. Now that I have some chicks again, the feed store also has better pricing on the pine shavings.

That's funny you mentioned molasses. DH was just telling me he thinks there are chunks of pellets with molasses smell in our scratch. Something is different about it, that's for sure. He saved up some of the weird stuff he's been pulling out of the scratch. Insists it smells like molasses. hmmm

It's definitely a regional thing! I live on the outskirts of houston and there are 4 wal-marts within driving distance. The 2 closest to houston carry no livestock items, and the 2 further out have not only chicken feed, but litter, horse feed, sheep feed and other things too.

Our Wal-Marts have all kinds of stock feed. I love their scratch, at least the birds eat it right away. The stuff I buy at the feed store doesn't get eaten right away and the pigeons and dove eat it all.
