Does it matter what brand of feed I get my chickens? On here I see advertisments for Nutrena Poultry feed. Is it more expensive? Better than the kind I get at a local farm store? Is it healthier? Or does it matter what kind of feed I get? When y'all comment please tell me brands of chicken feed and what store you get it from.

i would suggest country road layer PELLETS not crumbles, pellets are better for digestion and it makes the chickens eggs much bigger. you can get it at Rural King cheaper than nutrena or purina.

Do you have a source for this information? Pellets/crumbles/mash is just the shape that the food comes in and does not reflect the nutritional context of the feed. It all gets ground up in the gizzard regardless of how it starts out. If you have evidence to the contrary I would be interested in reading it.

The most important thing is to evaluate the nutritional needs of your entire flock and make sure that you are getting a feed that meets them. Take a look a the label at the percentage of protein and what kind of protein (soy or animal) and also the calcium content.

I personally prefer a grower feed with around 20% animal protein and a lower amount of calcium. I choose to avoid a layer and let my hens regulate their own calcium with oyster shells. There are a number of options and people tend to feel strongly about one over the others.

The reason i know this is because i have tried all three for a month at a time and i have found pellets work the best for my flock.
