Chicken Feed

Hey guys. This is my first flock and I am currently on Dumor Chick starter. I have read some bad things about their product. My chicks are doing great ( they were born April 10) but am going to have to purchase more feed and was wondering what I should get. I live in northern Illinois by the Wisconsin border and was wondering if there is a better product I should use. I will have to switch to a grower Feed now I believe. I live by a Farm and Fleet, Tractor Supply and a local feed store.

Grower is usually the same as starter, but with a lower protein percentage. Many people don't bother switching.

What have you heard bad about DuMor?

Also, @KikisGirls is doing a project with feed. She may be able to offer some advice (I haven't seen most of the people I recognise as nutritionists on BYC recently.)

That chickens have to eat more of it because it lacks quality ingredients so they poop more and it’s more smelly. I don’t know because this is my first flock so I have nothing to compare it to.

I heard of the poop issue recently, I've been using dumor I just switched to Purina and I noticed less of a smell of the feed but maybe a slight lack of enthusiasm from the chickens with Purina I've been recommended nutrena country feeds so I might try that next

I personally don't think there is anything "wrong" with DuMor feeds.
I don't think one should pay too much attention to what others say "reviews" (it's not like the humans eat it) about feeds. If your chicks are doing great why fix something that isn't broken?

You can leave your chicks on starter until they start to lay...no need to switch.
