okay so all the controversy with chicken feed i switched to nature wise layer feed? ive seen people say they dont think you should do layer feed, why is that!m? if so what do you use?

You can use layer, it just isn't recommended for roosters or pullets who are not yet orno longer laying because layer feed provides more calcium than those birds need.

So, because I have a rooster as well as 4 older hens who are past laying age, I feed all flock with oyster shell offered free choice in a separate container. I think that's what many folks feed. Some folks also just feed starter/grower for the duration of the birds' lives.

All that said, I have had zero issues with the suspect feeds. All of my layers have been laying, and I got eggs all winter, though there was the typical slow down. But that's just me. Do whatever you feel is best for your flock.

so the hens i have all i think are in there laying phase even though they haven’t laid in months but i could just orovide them a bowl of oyster shells and they would know to go to them when needed

Yes,but you don't need to do that if you are feeding layer. It is already high in calcium.
