chicken feed

what is crimped oats? do any of you add whole oats or crimped oats to your chicken feed?? do any of you have chickens that prefer scratch over laying crumbles? if given a preference my chickens will eat the scratch.

chicken crumbles are like broccoli or kidney beans

Given a choice your feather kids are always going to choose candy!!!

I think any chicken is going to prefer scratch over feed.

My chickens will peck at the slider door until I throw them a handful.

Unless you can find a better grade of oats than I can I don't recommend them for scratch feed.

I was using them for a while until I realized you could trace the trail of my chicken tractors by the path of oats growing behind them. A lot of oats. The hulls are very fibrous so you don't get as much bang for your buck as you do with corn or wheat.

Rolled oats are different, but they cost more than half again what whole or crimped oats do at my dealers.
