Just finished my first 25# bag of chick starter. The last 2 weeks I have been letting them out in the yard to eat whatever they can find, ofcourse still giving the chick start, but not as much.
There are 7 chickens at 6 weeks old. Here go the questions;

Should I get another bag of starter?

When do I stop the starter feed and move onto the next level?

Is there a recommended feed between starter and layer?
-Obviously they wont be laying for a while but I do want good hens with good eggs.

What age should I start layer pellets?

What about chicken scratch, how often should this be provided?

Thanks,
Ken

0-8weeks Chick Starter
8-20 weeks Grower Pellets
20+ weeks Layer Pellets

Chicken scratch can be given in small amounts as a treat WITH grit when they are younger....

Anyways....this is what I have read!

Pretty much except that the 0 - 8 weeks can be between 0 - 4 to 0 - 8 weeks. Does not matter that much.

Grower can be pellets or crumbles, whatever is available in your feed store.

The only really hard and fast rule is to not give them Layer until they start too lay or are grown.

So, get Grower for your next bag. It should be around 16% protein.

Thanks a bunch guys, this is exactly the answers I was looking for, heading to the feed store today for more stuff. Grower feed is now on the list.
