Has anyone figured out an approximate amount of feed one chicken will consume in its time before butchering?Trying to get an idea of how much it will cost to raise 30 cornish giants. I plan on pasturing them during the day as often as possible but sometimes the weather simply wont allow that here. But all I really want is someone to tell me how many chickens they have, how long they let them go, and how many pounds of feed they use in that time. Thanks.

I have heard 3 lbs of feed per lb of finished bird.

Lets see.. I had 15 birds. Went through 1 - 50 lb bag, 1 - 25lb bag and about 35lbs of another bag.

So 110lbs of feed over 7 weeks. Approx 7 1/3 lbs of feed per bird. I did have some wastage the first week or so. Probably 10 lbs total. So at 100 lbs it was 6 2/3lbs per bird. And they dressed anywhere from 2.8lbs to 5.5lbs.
