I used a PVC tube with a cap at the top. The bottom of the PVC tube leads to a guinea pig litter corner tray. The flock does great with it, they do scrap some feed out but then they will scratch and eat the feed on the floor.

Thanks! I was just looking at one of those on Etsy. It looked great - shipping was expensive though (nearly as much as bucket.
There are lots of diy videos and blogs on how to make them, if you have skill/tools. We made one and it was good...until the chipmunks were getting inside it and eating the feed. I decided then to switch to a Rat proof feeder. I'd recommend to consider you potential for rodents, small critters to get in the feeder, before doing that style.
You are correct. I did misread your post. I apologize. I still think my feeder is the best. The hens can't scratch feed out, they eat from the top and bottom and there is very little, if any, waste.I didn't say 'for outside the run', my words were 'for the outside run' (not the coop). I would like to keep the feeders (relatively) clean of debris and poop, so was looking at ones to mount that might work good. I have a miller flip top out there at the moment.
Thanks! Our hardware cloth is 1/2 inch, so I don't think anything is going to be able to get at the food, but the bucket feeder that I was looking at on Etsy had caps to cover the holes at nightime. There are lots of diy videos and blogs on how to make them, if you have skill/tools. Thanks! I have one similar in the coop at the moment that I can hang, that I may use outside if I don't find anything else. You are correct. I did misread your post. I apologize. Thanks! I like to look of those alsoI’ve recently gotten the Wise Hopper feeder. Have you looked at them yet? Available at Meyer Hatchery.
Thanks! I will check those outThe Rugged Ranch "high end hen" is a nice one. If you shop around online you can find them cheaper![]()
Thanks! I haven't looked on their website yet - I will do that today. The roof does slant at the back (I'm not sure to what degree, but it should be okay)Have you checked out Premier1supplies.com? They have good stuff, not found at the feed stores. I like their big yellow plastic hanging feeders here; at least look at their website. They have nice catalogs, and good advice by phone too.
Is the roof on your coop and run built with snow load in mind? It all looks pretty flat from the picture...
Very nice set-up!
