If a hen was bred by a rooster a week ago and then bred by a different rooster today and laid an egg an hour later, who's sperm did she use in the egg? The hen is a black copper maran. She used to be housed with a wynndott rooster and is now housed with a black copper maran rooster. I'm hoping the egg when incubated will be a full blooded black copper maran chick.

If a hen was bred by a rooster a week ago and then bred by a different rooster today and laid an egg an hour later, The egg would have been completely formed with a shell. Fertilization would have been impossible. who's sperm did she use in the egg? Should the egg be viable it would be from the wyandotte. The hen is a black copper maran. Most people that breed pure bred chickens use the rule of thumb of three weeks to insure that the hen lays the fertile egg from the rooster of your choice.

Some people claim that the last rooster to breed the hen will fertilizethe egg, but, since I don't want to disappoint people who buy my chicks I separate my hens for three weeks.
