Oy! I have a flock of three chickens, all from the same clutch. One is a rooster, two are hens. They had to be separated (had another rooster at the time), so one hen and a rooster went in one side of the building, and one hen and the other rooster went on the other, separated by a chicken wire and aluminum screen wall. They have seen each other their whole lives through the wall. The old rooster died, so I'd like to get the remaining hen in with the rooster and other hen. Problem is---the hens HATE each other. They fight each other through the wall, and usually draw blood on both sides when I try to put them together. Recently, they have ripped a hole in the screen and pecked each other bloody through the hole until I found them. Has anybody ever had two hens that just could not be put together? I have tried introducing them on neutral ground and distracting them with food (didn't work). They get so worked up, you can pick one up and the other one will be hanging from it, not letting go. I'm at wits end.

I had 2 older hen that did that as well tho they didn't grow up together and were different breeds. I tried every thing including separation and distractions to no avail. I finally had to get rid of the main instigator.

I have dealt with as you described.

What breed(s) involved? Picture would be helpful.

The partition / wall they are fighting through may be aggravating situation. Suggestion may be to allow them to fight it out in the open without partition. Will not stand behind that until breed question answered.

They are "mutts"---part Japanese, part Silky. We have tried letting them fight it out, to a point, but when one ripped a chunk out of the other's comb (twice), we stepped in. As far as a picture---imagine a giant ball of orange feathers with four feet, pretty much what they look like when they're together. Just a big, screaming wad of hate.

I have chickens that are much more capable fighters, hence concern about breed. Even those do not cause lasting damage to comb and wattles by fighting. I let mine fight it out even though they might be a little bloodied. After a couple days all but feather damage will be corrected.
