chicken flooring

I am a new chicken owner and trying to finish the coop by using recycled supplies. Someone has some modified torch down roofing, could I use that on the flooring?

Is there tar involved?

Don't think so. Think it's asphalt and maybe other additives.
If that isn't safe would white washing the floor be enough?

I'd probably white wash before I put asphalt material as a flooring.... that's just my opinion.... if they picked at it enough I am afraid they might get to much of that in them... again opinion. .. can you get your hands on some linoleum or stick down tiles?

I was worried about that myself. I will probably go with linoleum. Thank you for your input.
